The voice of criticism has been overwhelmingly brutal toward American educators, repeatedly declaring the “abysmal state of affairs.” But the truth is, the U.S. has many outstanding schools that are producing remarkable results--well above the norm for similar schools. Such negativity creates resentment, fear, anger, and similar emotions that certainly do not contribute to better schools and imroved student learning.

People, especially educators, respond far better to clear direction, a pattern of success, and supportive leadership because it produces greater confidence and the energy to innovate and improve.

At the SGF, we are fully committed to build on the strengths of U.S. schools to elevate them to their highest potential. This positive approach does not pretend to ignore or deny the problems. We just believe that when the focus is on positive outcomes and progress, impressive bottom-line results can be achieved. So, we've opted to avoid polarizing politics, and instead focus our energy and resources on what is working in schools.
